Do you have what it takes to become a NRA Certified Instructor?

Certified Instructors teach students the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe and proficient use of pistol, rifles, and shotguns.

Instructor Certification

 Eligibility

 

 

Possess a solid background in firearm safety and shooting skills which were acquired through previous firearm training and/or previous shooting experience.

 

Meet the age requirements:

Certified Instructor: 21 years of age or older.

Assistant Instructor: 18 years of age or older.

Apprentice Instructor: 13 – 17 years of age.

 

Satisfactorily complete the appropriate NRA Instructor Training Course and receive the endorsement of the chief training counselor.

 

Receive a passing grade on the appropriate NRA instructor certification examination:

Certified: 90 percent or higher.

Assistant: 85 percent or higher.

Apprentice: 85 percent or higher.

 

Submit a completed instructor application to the NRA Training Department along with the appropriate certification fee.

 

NRA instructor certification is not available to any individual who has been convicted of a crime of violence, or who is prohibited by federal, state or local law from possessing firearms. NRA membership is strongly recommended for instructors.

 

NRA membership is highly recommended for instructors. The instructors benefit through the many services available to NRA members, and are able to keep up with the latest program news through the “NRA Official Journal,” published monthly in the American Riflemen and American Hunter magazines.
